I didn't get as much work done on the books as I had hoped while I was away in Barcelona. But I did issue several book updates while I was away, and should be able to crank up the speed now that I'm heading home.
Here's what's new with the books, which will soon be served by a consolidated Field Guide Books web site.
Surface Pro 3 Field Guide
Status: Still free during this pre-release period, will cost $2
I issued a third pre-release update to Surface Pro 3 Field Guide, completing the first chapter, Before you start. As noted previously, this book is a companion guide of sorts to Windows 8.1 Field Guide. Everyone who buys Surface Pro 3 Field Guide (whenever that option becomes available) will get Windows 8.1 Field Guide for free.

The 1.05 update to Windows 8.1 Field Guide includes navigational bookmarks for PDF. This is already included in the MOBI (Kindle) and (I assume) the ePub versions automatically.

Windows Phone 8.1 Field Guide was updated to version 0.4. The first two chapters are complete, as is about half of the third chapter.

Windows Phone 8 Field Guide
Status: FREE, complete
The 1.09 update to the free Windows Phone 8 Field Guide adds PDF bookmarking so you can navigate through the various headings in the book using the Bookmarks feature in Adobe Reader or Acrobat, or whatever PDF reader you choose. I updated the MOBI and ePub versions as well, though I didn't change any of the content (and those versions already support that kind of navigation).

I didn't update Xbox Music Guide this month but now that the Windows Phone 8.1 app isn't a sad joke anymore, I will begin working on that again soon.
