Samsung is set to launch a Galaxy Galaxy Alpha smartphone which could be called the Galaxy S5 Prime or Galaxy F, so here's what you need to know about its release date, price and specs. See also: 25 best smartphones: The best phone you can buy in 2014.
While Samsung has released a Galaxy S5 mini and Galaxy S5 Active, it’s the rumoured Galaxy S5 Prime / Galaxy F / Galaxy Alpha (we wish it would settle on a single name although Alpha is the hot favourite) that is far more interesting.
The premium Samsung Galaxy S5 is thought to sit in between the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S5 mini and improve on the phone's build quality with a brushed-metal finish. According to Sammobile it will have a 4.7in screen, putting it in direct competition with the iPhone 6.
Sammobile has leaked several photos of the Samsung Galaxy Alpha (aka Galaxy S5 Prime or Galaxy F), pictured beside the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Evleaks has also shown it in a new colour, Glowing Gold, and pictured in the wild (both below).

Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime / Galaxy F / Galaxy Alpha: Release date
Samsung has made no reference to the metal Galaxy S5 but the device is thought to be coming any time now. After all, we've already seen the other S5 variants, and are now waiting only on the premium S5.
The latest clue no the Galaxy Alpha's no-show comes from udn.com, which suggests Foxconn is so busy with production of the iPhone 6 that it is struggling to also meet Samsung's requests for the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. According to the website, there is currently no factory in South Korea that can allow for smooth mass production of the Galaxy Alpha.
However, SamMobile - a pretty reliable source for Samsung related information - stated that Samsung will announce the Galaxy Alpha on either 4- or 13 August.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime / Galaxy F / Galaxy Alpha: Price
We're just speculating on price for now and it looks like you will probably have to have some pretty deep pockets to afford the Galaxy S5 Prime / Galaxy F / Galaxy Alpha, especially given that it will be pitted in direct competition with the iPhone 6 and features a metal chassis. Of course, some of its specs are expected to have been slimmed down from the S5, including the screen size.
The Galaxy S5 is now available for less than £500, but we think the premium Galaxy S5 is likely to launch near the £600 mark.
Amazingly enough, MobileFun is taking pre-orders for the unannounced device at £549 but hasn't stated when it will be available.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime / Galaxy F / Galaxy Alpha: Specs
In our review of the Galaxy S5 we criticised the smartphone for its plastic build quality – and we weren't the only ones to do so. Well the metal Galaxy S5 could address this problem as it's rumoured to offer an aluminium body.
The leaked photos in this article, from PhoneArena, show a brushed metal frame but a similar looking 'perforated' rear cover which is found on the Galaxy S5.
The LG G3 has pushed the boundaries with a Quad HD screen. The premium Galaxy S5 was previously thought to feature the same high resolution (2560 x 1440) on a slightly smaller display - 5.2in compared to 5.5in. However, today's unveiling of a Quad HD S5 exclusive to Korea, plus word from Dutch site Tweakers, which claims to have seen the Prime / F / Alpha at an event, seem to dash those Quad HD hopes.
The latest leak comes from the Korean Herald, which claims the Samsung Galaxy Alpha (thought to be the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime or Samsung Galaxy F) has a slightly smaller 4.7- or 4.8in 720p screen. Allegedly it also has a super-skinny (6mm) premium metal body.
Other possible hardware specs for the Galaxy S5 Prime / Galaxy F / Galaxy Alpha include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, an Adreno 420 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. These are all upgrades compared to the Galaxy S5 which has a Snapdragon 801, Adreno 330 and 2GB of RAM.
However, MobileFun touts an Exynos Octa-core processor and along with a 12Mp camera.
It's thought that the metal Galaxy S5 will come preloaded with Android 4.4.3 KitKat and, no doubt, Samsung's TouchWiz user interface.
Based on the leaked photos, the premium Galaxy S5 will retain the fingerprint scanner and heart rate monitor found on its predecessor. It also has a flap covering the microUSB port so it looks like it's also dust- and waterproof.
